Check Your Smoke Detectors Monthly!
Working smoke detectors can alert you to a fire in your home in time for you to escape, even if you are sleeping. Install smoke detectors on every level of your home, including the basement, and in every sleeping area. Test smoke detectors every month, following the manufacturer's directions, and replace batteries once a year, or whenever a detector "chirps"to signal low battery power. Never "borrow" a smoke detector's battery for another use - a disabled detector can't save your life! Replace detectors that are more than 10 years old!
Congratulations Sandyston Township Volunteer Fire Department on your 1st Place trophy for Best Appearing Small Company and 2nd Place troy for Best Appearing Engine 8-16 years. All your late nights and hard work has been rewarded and we are very proud of you! Congratuations also to Hamburg Fire Department on their 100th Anniversary!
On June 27, 2010, members of the Sandyston Township Volunteer Fire Department gathered to pay tribute to one of their own. This year marks the 55th year of the Chicken Barbeque. The members thanked life member, Joseph L. Haggerty, Sr., for his many years of delicious barbeques
by naming the barbeque pit in his honor. Mr. Haggerty is currently a life member of the STVFD, having been a member since 1953 and holds the secret receipe which makes the chicken barbeque so wonderful! Congratulations, Joe, and to all the members, past and present, who have worked to make the STVFD Chicken Barbeque such an anticipated event year after year!
